Production Assistant Jobs:
Your Stepping Stone To
High Paying, Regular Jobs

If you are looking for a career in the entertainment industry whether it is in the radio, TV or film production, working in a production assistant job position could well be an ideal option.  This job category has 2 divisions:

(1) Office Production Assistant jobs and

(2) Set Assistant Manager jobs.

You may choose to work in any of these 2 types of Pas initially until you’ve found a more stable and secure job in the field of entertainment.

The job position of Office Production Assistants is a bit similar to Administrative Assistant or Assistant Manager jobs in other sectors. These people provide help and support to the Manager by handling the operation of the office, including answering phones, making multiple Xerox copies of scripts and having them delivered, and even serving refreshments or coffee.  An Office Production Assistant may also be tasked to handle the lunch arrangement of the producer and the production staff as well.

Set Production Assistants work in the physical production set of any TV, radio, film, or music production.  The Set Pas’ reporting responsibility is typically to the Assistant Director and his or her work is close to that of the Production Manager. The responsibilities, time spent on the job, and the amount of work of Set PAs depends on how big or small the production is and also on the type of show. Usually a feature film may require a shorter contract than a TV and news shows.

The tasks of a Set Production Assistant include distribution of copies of scripts, communicating with different departments, taking care of the meal arrangements, and opening and closing the set, among others. Typically, PAs  report for work earlier than the other members of the production.  They usually are the first to come to the set and the last to go home. The long hours of work are compensated, though. by the opportunity to work with famous producers, actors and actresses.

In the fashion shows, a person can also work as a fashion production assistant to work closely with the producer of the show. The normal duties of a fashion PA are the set up and organization of models’ wardrobes, and deliveries, food arrangement, and other details of the fashion show. This is not a permanent position just like in a movie production, so it can last only for a number of days to a month, but once you’ve gained enough experience and knowledge in this type of show, you may find yourself one day producing your own fashion show.

How To Become A Production Assistant
Production Assistance jobs do not require a Bachelor’s degree however many PAs have finished courses in art, film, TV, media business, and others which are entertainment-related.  Earning a degree can help you land a PA job, which is very difficult to find because of the many people applying for the job.  If you know the standard concepts and procedures in daily production work, you can put yourself on top of the list.

You may also want to get started by going through an internship.  You may or may not get paid for your work, but this is a great opportunity to meet influential people who can help you get hired.
